The Glenlivet 12 Year Old

This premium offering comes from the Glenlivet distillery. This distillery has a landmark position in the whisky domain and happens to be the very first to be officially licenced in Scotland. The journey The Glenlivet is no less fascinating-- from a humble inception, it has metamorphosed into one of the largest brands in the world.

The Glenlivet 12 Year Old is one of the most famous malts to be created to perfection. It has a smooth balanced palate, and the underlying notes represent sweet summer fruits as well as floral notes akin to spring flowers.

The nose is delicately grassy and floral. This is intertwined by soft citrus notes of grapefruit as well as lemon. Almond and hazelnut-like nutty notes are also there. This is actually a delicate, fine-textured single malt which has a smooth balance and a fresh character aptly thrown up by the orange and lemon flavours. You can’t help but take another sip thanks to the juicy, citrusy notes which seems to linger on your senses.

Chivas Regal 12 Year Old

The Chivas brothers created this much acclaimed Scotch in the early 20th century. Way back in 1801, the company started its journey with the opening of a grocery store at Number 13 King Street, Aberdeen selling luxury items among food, coffee and spices. Not less than half a century ago the company started to create whisky and Chivas Regal 12 Year Old saw its first official release post Prohibition.

Chivas Regal 12 Year Old has a creamy nose of vanilla custard, hints of aniseed, lemon curd and butter toffee. You can also feel wood shavings and dried banana chips develop with just a hint of cassis.

The palate has the overpowering note of banana chips. You can steadily feel a creamy hint of barley malt too, spiced with notes of ground walnut and caramel. The final finish comes out a bit spicy with black pepper on the trail. You can also get hints of sweetness from the cereal. This can overall be termed as a balanced blend with a piquant touch.

Aberlour 12 Year Old

Aberlour 12 Year Old comes from the Aberlour Distillery located at the heart of Speyside, Scotland’s premier whisky-making region. Speyside is home to no less than half of Scotland's malt distilleries, well known for crafting whiskies of incredible depth and elegance.

Aberlour 12 Year Old easily takes the cake for being one of the choicest and best value-for-money offering, when it comes to Speyside malts. This version is double matured and is prepped in a mix of traditional oak and sherry casks and taste is rich and fruity with delicious Christmas cake notes.

The nose mostly resembles buttery cinnamon toast, concentrated raisin in the background, astringent woody touches, glacé cherry, and barrel char. No wonder the palate will be sweet and buttery with hints of maple syrup, brown sugar, plump raisins, nutmeg, milk chocolate and more of the char from the nose.

The finish comes out as medium length, with chocolate, raisins and more char. Overall this is a sweet dram with large amount of sherry spice and richness, which are not at all heavy in any sense of the term. You will feel a hint of bitter char and then the sweetness takes over rendering a beautiful balance.
