MMA lovers, hold onto your horses! The reigning UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) lightweight champion, Conor McGregor, is soon going to hit the Irish whiskey market with a new range of whiskeys. McGregor has named his whiskey ‘Notorious’, which has irked companies who claim they had trademarked the name before him. The Irish MMA fighter has said that he plans to “take over the Irish whiskey market”.
At a recent post-fight press conference, McGregor told media persons of his plan. He added: “Boy, that whiskey tastes so good. Oh s***, keep an eye out for it.” He kept taking swigs of his whiskey from a glass, ensuring that he was photographed by the media persons present.
Whiskey lovers should definitely look forward to Notorious’ launch as Irish whiskey is known to be milder and smoother than its counterpart — the Scotch whisky. This is because peat is not often used in the process of malting and the whiskey undergoes a process of triple distillation.
Such launches are not new. Several athletes have tried to enter the spirits trade. Celebrities like David Beckham, Mila Kunis, Channing Tatum and Adam Levine have also been in this business. This move is being recognised as a great marketing tactic and one that will make McGregor's legacy and persona legendary.
