The award-winning, and globally-recognized Isle of Arran Distillery has recently announced the launch of the latest edition of the Amarone Cask Finish Single Malt. The company witnessed a consistent rise in demand for the product, with the last batch selling out almost six months ago.
With a rapid three month sell-out period, previous bottlings have found strong traction among customers. Released in 2010, the first batch earned a score of 96 out of a possible 100 in the Whisky Bible, and was included among Single Malt limited editions.
After being matured in traditional oak casks for a considerable period of time, the Arran Single Malt is ‘finished’ in a selection of Amarone wine casks, sourced from the iconic red wine’s artisan producer. To strike the perfect balance between the Amarone casks and the intrinsic sweetness of the single malt, the secondary maturation period was spearheaded by none other than master distiller James MacTaggart.
According to McTaggart, “The Amarone Cask Finish has to be one of our most popular limited editions with demand growing for each new expression. We’re just as proud of this latest bottling as we were the first and look forward to it being enjoyed by fans of The Arran Malt everywhere.”
The Amarone Cask Finish has 50% ABV, with distinct notes of dark chocolate and cherry. Hints of cinnamon and dark plum further accentuate the boldness of the dram.
Initially emanating a gentle aroma of pear and honey, the nose is gradually dominated by whiffs of cranberry and toasted almonds. The finesse of The Arran Malt is rounded with the restrained fruit and oak from the Amarone casks for a concentrated, yet elegant finish that tantalizes the taste buds.
