A newly opened Beach Bar BOAT’s (Based On A True Story) Resto Bar, is the new hotspot of Besant Nagar. Any reason why it should not be? Hard to find! Best beach view, nice décor, good music, good food - it has all the ingredients for a fun evening. The interesting part about this place is the cocktail menu. Don’t be surprised if you find Cocktails made up of locally available fruits like nellikka/amla, tamarind, Jamun, etc. Being a new and popular place, chances are you’ll have to go through some waiting before getting in. But once you are in, it’s a great place to be. Parmigiana Chicken Burger, Chicken Tikka, and Alfredo Chicken Pasta are some dishes you must get your hands on.

PRO TIP: Try going on a weekday to avoid crowds and to peacefully enjoy a sunset beach view with a chilled beer!

BEST BARS IN CHENNAI
1. Sera, The Tapas Bar

Chennai’s first Spanish-style tavern with an extensive Tapas Menu has been through a couple of name changes that haven’t affected the establishment’s cult following. Not a lot has changed over a decade – the leather stools, the brilliant tapas and the cocktail menu. It’s why Sera is an ultimate comfort zone for a Friday night or even a business lunch (their four-course lunch menus with a drink are immensely popular) on a weekday.

2. Velveteen Rabbit
It’s easy to lose track of time (and the time of day) when you’re tucked a few feet under the ground (the bar is located under L’Amandier Café) in one of the bar’s old school high-back chairs or sprawled on one of their decadent couches. This intimate bar takes its name from Margery Williams’ novel of the same name. Their international beer selection is impressive and so are their small plates – the blue Cheese Chicken tikka and Arancini balls are equally compelling.

3. Radio Room
One of 2016’s most talked about launches, Radio Room continues to turn away people on Saturday nights. Iconic album covers and images compete with clever props (we love their retro microphone-shaped lamps and repurposed ‘hi-fi’ systems) and make this one of the city’s hippest hangouts. The music stays in the 80s – a mix of rock anthems and the odd obscure pop track but the cocktails and snacks are decidedly progressive.

4. Ink 303

Dark and in multiple shades of Blue, this space sought inspiration from the art on its walls for its name. Located in the swish Khader Nawaz Khan neighbourhood with a resident DJ constantly upping the tempo. Ink 303’s Oriental selection is their highlight. Do sample their grilled prawns drowned in a Thai Red curry sauce or the water chestnuts tossed in Hunan sauce.

5. Sudaka

The vibrant art and décor transport you straight to South America. This is among India’s only South American bars where there’s everything from Ceviche to Argentinian lamb empanadas in the mix. Not happy with the grub? No problem. Just turn to Sudaka’s flamboyant South American bartender (she insists on being called a ‘barmaid) and let her conjure up a wicked cocktail.

6. Big Bang Theory

That iconic image of Einstein (with his tongue out) greets you and so does a large wall with math equations. There’s enough quirky design elements to add drama to this cool pub that shares its name with one of the most popular TV shows of a generation. The food and drinks find that balance between the comfort zone and the exotic; that’s enough to bring you back.

7. Moon and Six Pence

This warm and friendly pub with a distinctive Irish vibe has enough room to accommodate some of the city’s most energetic live bands. The shot eats are terrific, and so are heavy mains like their signature Blackened fish.

8. Plan B

Don’t let the name fool you, this place is certainly not an afterthought for its loyal legion of fans. The Plan B story began in Bengaluru before setting shop in Chennai. It’s the same winning formula – grungy interiors, flaming cocktails and heaps of greasy finger-friendly food that appeal to your most basic food cravings. The perfect recipe for the quintessential neighbourhood bar.

Chennai definitely has some of the best bars in the country. The people of Chennai know how to chill in style and luxury.

For me, the very first on the list has to be Sera! This place can put the pubs in other big starry cities to shame. With some of the cities finest cocktails served alongside finger licking delicious Spanish and Asian food, this place is heaven. You cannot help but come back to this place again for its ambience and awesome service.

10 Downing Street mimics your signature British pub with its design. The menu is international and does justice to your cravings! The bar is definitely the best place to sit at!

Another place I love is Evoke bistro Bar and Grill! Dim lit, loud bouncy beats, a good dance floor, and an array of alcohol, cocktails and mocktails to choose from!

Another favorite of mine in Chennai is the Radio Room. This stylish theme bar is too cool to not visit at least once. With international cuisine, luxurious interiors, jazzy music and a grand bar in place, this place is definitely a must-go!

Aura too deserves a place on my list! This art deco design lounge bar can be a bit heavy on your pocket though! If you can, do try their bar at least once! Their cocktails are amazing!

Honorable mention- The Vault Bar Stock Exchange

Cheers!

Bars for a very long time was a preserve of the Hotels in Chennai and it's only recently now that many Cool Hangout Pubs have come up in this South Indian Metro changing the way Chennaites socialize.

Sera, The Tapas bar has a Spanish feel to it and has actually been named and renamed many times. That, however, never affected the cult following this place has managed from the time of its opening.

Velveteen Rabbit has a way of making you forget the time (of the day) in its old setting underground and employs the peculiar feel of classic old school high chairs. They have a pretty impressive collection of international beer, and their Blue Cheese Chicken Tikka is something you won’t find elsewhere.

1. Sera: Located at Cathedral Road, this one’s definitely one of the best bars in Chennai. Sera is the ultimate comfort zone for a Friday night or even a business lunch (their four-course lunch menus with a drink are immensely popular) on a weekday.

2. Radio room: Opened in the year 2016, this modern bar is located at 94, Sathyadev Avenue. With it’s whitewashed radios’ décor, good bar menu, delicious food and quick service, this place is a must-visit!

3. Ink 303: located at Khader Nawaz Khan Road, this bar is one of the best-themed bars in Chennai. This modern contemporary place is a great place to hangout with friends over some class drinks, good food and soul-tripping music!

10 Downing Street: The British Chain of bars has set its feet deep and is one of the most
famous hangouts in Chennai
Sera - Tapas Bar: A nice place with a Spanish theme set right in the middle of the city. The
smoking zone is a big plus, and the food is yum.
The Flying Elephant: A three-storeyed place where each floor is a different experience in
itself. Super-active, super friendly staff and that’s one thing you’d definitely notice about this
place.
Evoke: The music is loud and groovy, and the floor looks inviting even before you are 2
drinks down. Need more?

Let’s do this!

First has to be submarine bar on Mount Road. The place might look pretty small but the dim lights start doing the magic soon, and the drinks along with the yummy food will make you want to stay there forever.

Based on a true story

Just as unique and modern as its name, this place is a must visit. It might become a bit noisy on the weekends, but, all in all, you’ve got to be here at least once!

The interiors are so vivid, unique and beautiful, I can’t even explain! The walls are more like an artist’s artwork rather than only décor.

• The Velveteen Rabbit - A small cozy bar to meet friends for drinks and spend quality time, while also having a good selection of food.

10, Downing Street

10, Downing street happens to be a chain of British pubs, and in Chennai, it is one of the most visited

places. This place has some of the best food you can find across pubs and bars in Chennai. A variety

of themes for different nights makes this place even more interesting.

Sera, Tapas Bar

If you are one of those looking for live bands or DJs, then start on for Sera which employs a Spanish

theme in its setup. Sera has good food and attracts a great, young crowd.

Radio Bar

The place is literally made of white washed radios giving it a look like none other in the city and they

have some of the best international food. Getting a reservation here before going in is a good idea,

and it gets cramped over the weekends.

Big Bang Theory

Try not finding a relation with the famous TV Show to start with because there is none. Big Bang

theory is a nice little place with an ambiance that sets up your mood to the jovial right when you enter.

The bartender as well as the waiting staff is very receptive.

There would barely be anyone in the Metro capital city of Chennai who is a bar/pub-lover

and wouldn’t recommend 10 Downing Street to you. The public drinking scene in Chennai

was limited to bars and pubs in hotels for decades and the last decade has seen a surge in

names which have turned into local brands to reckon with. You then hop on to Sera, Tapas

Bar which has a Spanish theme and the best part is the enthusiasm seen among the

working staff. The music and the food attract a crowd like no other.

Arcot bar is your next place of choice, and if you are willing to spend some money, you can

experience brilliant service that is quick and polite at the same time. You can ask the chef to

prepare dishes not present on the menu and chances are you would get your order.

Some of the other must visit places are Radio room (brilliant retro setting), Bamboo Bar

and Evoke Bistro Bar and Grill.

Arcot Bar and Hudson Bar are some of the best bars in Chennai which have an

amazing ambiance. And that would be the first thing that will catch your attention as

soon as you enter. Then there is Kipling Café and Cocktail Bar which compete to outdo

each other in appearance. Both are equally my favourite. Another great place and

obviously my most favourite is the Whiskey Cocktail which is out of the world! These are

among some of the best places where businessmen can have meetings and spend

some time with their close friends.
