Long John Scotch

Long John Scotch

Long John Blended Scotch Whisky dates back to 1825 and was named in honour of John McDonald, a distiller of the time who was given the nickname Long John for being very tall and strong. Speaking of tall, this antique bottle of Long John blend from the 1960s is rather large indeed, holding 227cl of whisky. Long John Whisky is particularly popular in France. It dates back to the early 20th century, and is made at the Tormore distillery.

The Long John blend contains 48 malts, including Laphroaig and Highland Park. These malts definitely influence the distinctive taste of this blend.

  • Nose

Simple syrup, icing sugar, and vanilla. It has a very sweet, and slightly smoky nose. It also has a distinct malty, almost new-makey character. There are no off-notes here, and it is quite decent.

  • Finish

Appears quite thin, towards watery. The mouth-feel does leave something to be desired.

  • Taste

A standard blend, smooth, dark with a strong hint smoke.Woody, bourbon notes, smoky, and again quite sweet. The simple syrup and icing sugar is here as well.
