The beginning of The Glenlivet can be traced back to 1822 when the foundations of the brand were laid by George Smith. Tucked among the valleys of the Speyside, George Smith employed patience and skill into developing what is known as the ‘single malt that started it all.
The distinct taste that makes The Glenlivet one of the best whiskies to have ever been created, has remain unchanged over the years and is the product of their unique lantern shaped, long necked stills. These stills help achieve a single malt that is lighter, and smoother as compared to its contemporaries.
The Glenlivet 12 is one of the most closely resembling whiskies developed by founder George Smith when he was perfecting the art of producing single malt scotch whisky at his distillery in the Speyside. Its color is a bright, vibrant gold and it is enclosed within a finely crafted bottle engraved with a seal that displays The Glenlivet brand’s year of origin.
The Glenlivet Single Malt Scotch Whisky is prepared with fine quality barley, yeast and water. The brand has a unique 6- stage process to create The Glenlivet;
The Glenlivet Single Malt was initially developed and sold illicitly and had earned such admiration and notoriety that even King George IV asked to taste it on his visit to Scotland.
When George Smith obtained a license to manufacture his spirits, and became the first legal distiller in the Glenlivet parish, he faced death threats along with threats of destruction of his distillery. He carried a couple of flintlock pistols with him at all times to protect himself and The Glenlivet distillery.
At present, The Glenlivet distillery is owned by the Pernod Ricard Global, a French conglomerate that is one of the largest producers of alcoholic beverages in the world.
The Glenlivet is the Single Malt of choice at big celebrations like Burns Night. It is the celebration of the famous Scottish poet, Robert Burns, and is also known as the Robert Burns Day.
